Samar Island has been one of the main beneficiaries of the Philippine governments eco tourism programs. There are several extraordinary beaches in the various parts of the island, and Sulangan is just one of them. Sulangan beach represents an exciting combination of swimming and diving delights for tourists.
A lot of the people that come to Sulungan Beach simply relish lying on the sands; if you are a diving buff, you wont be disappointed as there are plenty of colorful fish to be found.
Sulangan is at the tip of a peninsula, off of Guiuan Samar, which is surrounded by the Pacific Ocean. The road to Sulangan which is called Calicoan island is bordered by beachfront properties on both sides of the road, which is a little disconcerting, because it's like driving on a natural bridge where you fall off the end of the island after an endless drive.
Sulangan is known for its miraculous saint, San Antonio de Padua. There are records of the saint's miraculous interventions against disasters, of miraculous healings, and of impossible requests being granted. The church had become too small to house all pilgrims but pilgrims from all over the country flock to the shrine to pray to San Antonio, and to ask for his intercession.
Through the efforts of the devotees, residents and the Sulangan's parish priest their on their way to extend the church.
